Marker World Editor

I have finished working on the Marker World Editor. A basic tutorial for the editor can be found here. In addition to the editor functionality, completing a level now displays your finish time as well as the number of objects drawn. I also added a counter for the number of stars remaining in a level to the overview/menu screen. Enjoy!

[update: 12/29/07 - There are reported problems running this version on Windows Vista. A temporary fix may be to run Marker World in Windows ME/98 Compatibility mode. Hopefully that will fix the problem until I get a copy of Vista to properly test it on.]

Thank you SO much, I was looking forward to this a lot. Now the only thing I can suggest is a type of constraint system, like Garrysmod if you’ve ever played that. Ropes, pins, nails, that kind of system would make this game even better than it already is.

    Great job on the editor.

Reporting back after playing with this almost nonstop :) It seems that when I place a dynamic object in the editor, it doesn’t show up when I test the level. I’m not sure if this is intentional or not.

Also, if you want I could do some testing on betas and such or create some levels, but that’s up to you.

    Again, great job!

I’m trying to start the game on a X41 TabletPC with windows Vista ultimate. It sais “Hardware T&L” is not supported. After that the game starts but crashes immediately. is there a way to play the game without HW T&L? It would be so great to play an a tablet!!!
P.S. The Editor works fine after showing the same message before it starts!!! :P

Yes, the dynamic objects are just for testing and playing around with inside the editor.

Thanks for the offer but as of now I don’t have anything to be beta tested. As for levels, I would eventually like to create an area to host custom levels which they can be go.

The editor works (after displaying the message) but the game does not? Hardware T&L shouldn’t be required (it is just a notification message) so I don’t know why it would be crashing. I will try and look into it.

  6. Dave Says:

Thanks for your replies allen, I’ll definitely be looking forward to more developments on this game, congratulations on a job well done!

Not working for me on Vista ultimate either :( The previous version worked fine, but not this one. It opens and shows the title screen, then when i click it says the program has to close.

Just would like to report about my experience.

Maps made in editor behave diffrent from demo-maps, in my custom maps, i can draw across the map-terrain, and make my own objects to stick on the terrain that way… realy hard to explain! :D but it makes it realy easy to complete custom-maps.

Also, my friend uses Vista Home, and he cant use the game.

One thing i would realy like, is if it was possible to take a screenshot in the end, of the solution i mean, so that i could show others how i finished the level…

    Keep up the good work!

People on the fun-motion.com forums have reported that running it in Windows ME/98 Compatibility mode may fix the problem with running it in Windows Vista. I’ll have a get a copy of Vista before I can properly test it…

Yes, the reason for this is because the terrain in the demo maps were created differently than the way maps are created in custom levels. Hopefully the different doesn’t hurt the gameplay too much.

  11. TabletUser Says:

it works under Vista in Win 98/ME compatibility mode. But now i found the next bug:) it starts only in landscape, not in portrait mode

for taking the screenshot just use the AltGr+ Print button combination then you can paste the screenshot of the game to paint or lrfanView

Windows keeps encountering errors on my level I’m making. Are there any line limitations for the editor?

  13. Jeremy Darling Says:

Awesome, just downloaded and started playing with the editor. Wonderful fun in general.

One nice to have feature would be keyboard customization. I’m not a fan of the old wasd keys and would much prefer to be able to use the arrow keys for movement.

Any chance of you posting the file format for the custom levels so others can create editors that will work with your game? There are a few features I’d like to see that I would actually take the time to develop (IE: Stamps of common shapes and brushes for things like water/grass)

Again, excellent work and many hours wasted playing with the original so I’m sure this one will require more of my time :)

Can you be more specific as to what errors you are encountering?

Any chance of you posting the file format for the custom levels so others can create editors that will work with your game?

The file format is rather arbitrary and would take quite some effort just document properly. But if I have more spare time this is something I can see doing.

  17. Pascal Says:

Is there a place where custom levels are exchanged, so I can download more of them?

  18. LFF Says:

In my line, I draw one line, either in the Editor or the Game itself, and windows just says it has encountered an error and closes the program.

  19. allen Says:

I am hoping to find some time soon to add a place to this website where custom levels can be uploaded and shared.

In my line, I draw one line, either in the Editor or the Game itself, and windows just says it has encountered an error and closes the program.

Can you please post which video card and operating system you are using?

  20. Spencer Says:

they should make a place where you can submit your level and why dose my mouse disappear and another thought why can we get the program thet they used to make the origal game

  21. captin clay Says:

If you guys want to try something fun, make fake walls with the draw functions. Also you can make invisible walls by using white. The invisible walls work better if you change the backround to all white. THe above poster and I thought of this.

  22. SPENCER Says:

    IM the above poter

  23. SPENCER Says:

has anyone succesfully made a catapult if so how far did you get it to launch and did it lauch the circle or the drawing i made it launch a circle for about 1 whole screen

  24. Ryx Says:

I get the error where you see dotted lines instead of crayons when you draw. I use dual ATI 1300/1550s, similar to that guy who posted in the thread. I’ll try updating my drivers, if that doesn’t work, please fix.

Nice levels! The forum area of my website is now up so feel free to upload your levels to the discussion board :).

  28. Ryx Says:

I updated my drivers, and I still draw with strange lined boxes instead of crayon. Why is this happening?

  29. SPENCER Says:

those levels are great i made my invisable lines by changing the color of one color to white then going to textures and deleting the mw_background.png and there invisable but the walls in the level called invisable are better also for fun i went to paint then clicked on file went to open found my marker world went to textures and opened the star pictures and erased them then i made a closed yellow circle then opened another star in paint made a circle with a slice out of it to look like pacman if you make every ofther star open and every other one closed it makes a perfect pacman that has given my game no errors the only problem is its in a white box

  30. SPENCER Says:

sorry in the last post is said i deleted mw_background.png i accually deleted ruled I appoligize for the inconvenience also i would like to add that i have heard that if you change your backround to black it makes your drawings look neon and of course if you want invisable lines in the black just use black marker after i made the last post i also realized that i forgot to ask how you made the lines in invsable and are they accually invisable like i think they are

  31. LFF Says:

I’m using an Nvidia card with Windows XP.

  32. Navineous Says:

The ball, menu and level won’t show up but when I draw stuff it shows up. When I draw something it fall’s onto a invisable platform!

  34. wade Says:

how do i go to the editor?!?!?!?!
    i got confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  35. chance Says:

    @spencer

No, they are not accualy invisible, I took a screen shot, pasted it in paint, used the match color tool to get the same color as the backround, and then used that color to draw in the yellow spaces of the normal backround.
